How to translate a book

How to translate a book in AuthorCat · 2:38

Translation is a separate mode: you upload your book, and the machine translates it chapter by chapter, keeps the names the same across the whole book and shows where it had doubts. The machine does the long work; the important decisions stay with you.

  1. On the portal, click “Literary translation” — the “My translations” section opens. Click + New translation and upload the book: Word, EPUB, FB2, PDF or plain text.
  2. Choose the translation direction and the language. If your language is not in the list, choose “Custom language…” and type its name: the interface stays in the app language, and the book is translated into the language you typed. In the “How to translate” block, choose a mode: “T1 · Step by step” stops at the key stages and waits for you; “T2 · Full automation” translates the whole book on its own.
  3. Check the chapters: the book is split into them by rules, without AI. Click “leave out” on the title page, the table of contents and anything else you do not need, then click Create translation project.
  4. Click Start — the machine reads the book and builds a glossary of names and special words. Each AI call is a line in the log: what was done, by which model and how long it took.
  5. Open “Glossary”. Words with doubts are at the top: pick an option with one click or type in your own translation. Then click Approve the glossary — the machine builds the translation passport and guide. In the “Passport and guide” section, adjust if you like who the translation is for and what must not be lost, then click Accept passport and guide.
  6. The trial chapter is translated block by block. Read it next to the original and edit it — your edits become the style samples for the whole book. Click Build samples, then Run automation for the whole book — the chapters are translated and accepted on their own. In “T2 · Full automation” mode, the machine goes through these steps without stopping.
  7. Open “Automation summary”: it lists the glossary doubts and the places marked ⚑ — each one leads to a glossary entry or to a block of the chapter. Download the finished book in the “Export” section: choose a format — Word, EPUB, FB2, Markdown or plain text — and click Download file.
